The internet is for porn…

So we have all heard countless arguments pro and con either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. I’m flat out saying that HD-DVD will beat Blu-Ray. Why ? Is it because of the lower price? …No. Is it because, as of now, there are more movies out on HD-DVD than Blu-Ray? …No.

The answer is, as often, quite simple: porn

Sony’s refusal to allow adult video agency’s to press their content sadly mirrors the same move they made back in the eighties, when Betamax was not widely adopted by the adult industry. End result? Beta went out the window while VHS sold billions. This sent a clear message to the entire consumer-electronics industry: do not underestimate porn! The adult industry is one of the most influental industries in the world. And yet Sony has to be it’s stubborn, stupid self by repeating the exact same mistake it made 20 years ago. It’s just another thing to add to the list of Sony stupidities (next to the rootkits, the PS3 shortage debacle, the endless introducing of proprietary formats like Atrac and Memory Stick, the Minidisc failure, etc.)

(EDIT: Amazing. My blog post is just a day old and Sony messes up once again. Are they trying to be mocked?)

It’s just mind-boggling how Sony can ignore the adult industry. It’s not like it’s a minor industry. I’m sure if you took the adult out of adult industry it would never occur to them to shun such a large industry. Sometimes one wonders what kind of reasoning goes behind those decisions. But then again one is reminded of how well the Dilbert comic strips reflect reality. It’s so sad it’s funny again.
