This is a quick post. I’m literally going to bed right after this.
If you have a Samsung 205BW (or two) and you hear a high pitched whine, turn your brightness all the way up to about 92/93. Apparently, the backlight can’t cope with low brightness levels.
Now go into your video card settings (AMD/Nvidia) and adjust the desktop brightness from there.
Not sure if this solves it permanently, but it’s worth a try.
Update: Yep, that fixed it. Apparently the ‘brightness’ setting actually controls the backlight. So instead of telling the liquid crystals to allow less light to pass through, it actually reduces the amount of light emitted by the backlight. (Well at least that’s my theory)
